Researching Revolutionary War Patriots in Your Family Tree - part 1 In-Person
For most people if they have at least one grandparent who was born in the US, they have a good chance to prove they descended from a Revolutionary War Patriot. Join the Middletown Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution to learn how to use Family Search public trees and the National Society DAR database to identify if you have a potential Revolutionary War ancestor. This 2-part workshop requires you to bring a laptop. Please note that part 2 requires attendance and completion of part 1 or equivalent. Registration is required.
Part 1 (Sept. 30) will focus on correctly adding yourself to Family Search and connecting your family into the public tree. Please bring to the class what information you have on your family tree, especially the names, date and place of birth, and date and place of death for each one of your parents and your 4 grandparents.
Part 2 (Oct. 21) – Once you are connected into the public tree, use that tree in conjunction with the DAR’s Genealogical Research System to identify any potential Revolutionary War ancestors. This workshop will only help you identify a potential branch of the tree to explore further. Once a candidate ancestor is identified, traditional genealogy techniques will be required to prove that line.
