Summer Scares: Frankenstein Radio Play

Summer Scares: Frankenstein Radio Play In-Person

Raconteur Radio Presents
FRANKENSTEIN! IT'S ALIVE! A Staged Presentation

FEATURING: Jeff Maschi and Michael Jarmus. With Alex Dawson.

ABOUT: Two centuries ago, a teenage genius created a monster that still walks among us. Few creatures of horror have seized readers' imaginations and held them for so long as the anguished "wretch" of Mary Shelley's Modern Prometheus. The story of Victor Frankenstein's terrible creation and the havoc it caused has enthralled readers, listeners, and viewers for generations. Considering the novel's enduring success, it's remarkable it began as a mere whim of Lord Byron, who, along with Mary and her then lover, Percy Shelley, was summering on the shores of Lake Geneva, "We will each write a ghost story," Byron announced to his friends, when continued rains kept them indoors. At this challenge, Mary Shelley began work on a 'ghost story' that was to evolve into the most celebrated horror novel in literary history.

RUN TIME: 55 minutes.

WITH: Period costumes! Theatrical lighting! Vintage commercials! Fog effects! And, of course, extensive sound effects!

WAIT, WHAT IS THIS? A radio play or audio narrative, what some call an "ear movie," is a story told through dialogue, sound effects, and music. We add costumes, colored spots, a fatboy Elvis mic, and, sometimes, a fog machine and/or a strobe light, then perform it for live audiences at a range of traditional and improvised venues throughout the Tri-State area.
