Don Mclean's iconic song "American Pie" released in 1971 repeatedly mentioned "The Day The Music Died." He refers to the 1959 plane crash, which killed the early rock and roll performers Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens. One theme of the song seems to be the loss of innocence of the early rock and roll generation as symbolized by the plane crash claiming the lives of these young singing heroes.
This program takes it a step further by paying tribute to not only those killed in that plane crash '59, but a number of other rock stars who died long before their time.
